📍 Saint-Germain-de-la-Rivière
Boucle du Patrimoine
Take to the heights of Saint-Germain-de-la-Rivière, a small village with many surprises in store. The cradle of man in the Fronsadais region, where the Dame de Saint Germain, a rich 16,000-year-old burial site of a young woman, was discovered in the quarries in 1934. An information area has been set up in a former quarry.
You can see a monolithic washhouse dug into the rock, the oldest in the commune. The rock washhouse dates back to 1894 and was in use until the 1950s.
A plane tree has been awarded the "Arbre Remarquable de France" label. It is over 250 years old. It is 44 m high and has a circumference of 7.48 m at 1.30 m from the ground, with a diameter of 2.48 m. There are also views over the Dordogne valley and a foot bath.
