Butte de Launay

The Butte de Launay is the highest point in the Entre-deux-Mers region and one of the highest in Gironde. It once housed a medieval castle, the layout of which was drawn up by Léo Drouyn. As the hillock was probably too large, it was divided by a moat to the south and east; the other two sides were terraced. This fortress was probably built of wood. At the time of Léo Drouyn, two mills occupied the corners of the enclosure. They are now in ruins. The highest point of the mamelon was occupied by a chapel, now destroyed, called Saint-Jean-de-Puy-de-Tour.
