Monsieur Jourdain dreams big: he wants to become a "gentleman". When a simple bourgeois struggles to gain access to high society and imitate the nobility, pretence swirls, intrigue is born, tutors come and go, and one misunderstanding follows another? Turks invite themselves, marriages are arranged, vowels and consonants are disputed in a waltz of powdered wigs and flamboyant costumes.
